let me go home
back in my city, settled in my apartment, feeling so good about where I am. Blogging has been slow lately, because of how busy life has been. But I'll be back soon! lots to share. For now, here's a picture of my first view of Samish Bay since last year:

Bonjour, l'Automne.
this is my current situation: wearing a sweater and wool booties, eating gingerbread crisps (from Trader Joe's - so yum, go get some), drinking a homemade vanilla chai, and listening to Regina Spektor (and blogging, but that's a given, no?). And this morning I ordered a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks.. so I must say, it's time to say hello to Fall. The summer slipped away too early for my taste, but now that the sun is tucked behind the clouds for the remainder of the next six months we can celebrate the coming of the next season. By moving into cute new apartments in a lovely town, par example! Or in smaller steps, like wearing scarves and boots and chunky sweaters that look like they just came off of Jennifer Aniston in one of her many rom-coms.
I am in the process of packing to move in just a few days (yes!) and am now on the fun parts, like packing up my room. I went shopping with my mom the other day and bought so many frames and candles/holders, and as I put my personal pictures into them and tucked them into a big box with all the gorgeously scented candles, I got so excited to have my own space. A room that is no one else's but my own. That is something I've never had, since I grew up in a family of seven and then shared a dorm room with two others last year. I've never had a place that is fully my own, that I can fill with absolutely anything I want. And for some reason, collecting all those photos and candles made me so thrilled to fill that bedroom. It seems like something so simple, but I am going to cherish my room. Just you wait. And, with all the candles I bought...it is going to smell absolutely delicious.

Decisions, decisions
I saw Going the Distance while in Arizona last week (which was extremely crude at points but a cute, funny, realistic-ish look at long distance relationships) and Drew Barrymore was so ridiculously adorable in it that she made me really want to cut my hair shoulder length and go a little blonder this winter, like her hair in the picture above. But it is a dilemma! Because I've been trying to grow my hair out long for years and it is finally long, which is of course the precise moment I want to cut it. I can't decide..I'm giving myself until December to sleep on it (don't make fun of me - this is a monumental decision!). but, opinions?

me and all my friends, we're all misunderstood
don't even get me started on missing his show at the Gorge a few weeks ago. John Mayer will always be one of my core favorite musicians - no matter how many times my musical tastes have changed and evolved, his voice is always a comfort to me, something familiar to sing along to, lyrics to relate to, cry to, laugh along with, whatever. My sister and I were supposed to go see him on his current tour, but unfortunately she couldn't come home this summer (she lives an amazing, sunny, adventurous life in Hawaii - that's another story) so I ended up not going. I will not miss his next tour!
btw - this picture is from his tumblr (http://jhnmyr.tumblr.com/) which is always witty, interesting, deep, silly, somber, sarcastic, and a good read. Even if you do think he makes weird faces when he sings!
