WA --> ID

Our MLK weekend was spent driving across the state and back, from northern Washington to Northern Idaho. The drive was stunning whites & blues & greens, moving from frosty WA to snowy, snowy Idaho. I'm not sure there is anything more picturesque than snowed-on farmland punctuated with red barns and ever green trees--almost as wonderful were the teeny tiny towns we drove through, most of which seemed to be stuck in the 1950s...our stops made for coffee, burgers, or French Toast in these sweet lil' towns were silly and fun.

Evan & I had a wonderful weekend together! I met his parents and sister, and he met my grandparents and a few aunts + uncles. Everyone seemed to love everyone (fingers crossed!). On the lazy Sunday, we took a walk around the forest near his parents' house, following turkey prints in the snow and studying the crazy way that ice forms on the river when it's 10 degrees out. I am back in rainy Bellingham and missing the foot of snow.

ps: I am re-reading some Walden right now & couldn't resist tossing some Thoreau onto these Northwest photos. I made myself stop with two--he was quite the grump at times but uttered such beautiful things!

sunday sweet

psst: I made these last night for my boyfriend (after he oh-so-subtly sent me the recipe in a facebook message that just said "I die") & they are deleeelish: perfectly chewy and sweet. Find the recipe here! I added a bit of extra salt & peanut butter and a tiiiiny bit less sugar. Enjoy! xo.

vintage love

six new pieces added to the shop! I'm kind of in-love with all of these pieces...especially that baby pink sweater, and the silk floral midi, and that structured 80s blazer...basically, all of them. But I'm willing to give them away to good homes. Now I'm off to eat Thai food & veg a bit. Visit East Magnolia Vintage to see these six items + many more! xo.

ps: many thanks for the sweet thoughts re: meeting the family...I think it went well! More on that + photos in my next post. ;)

my little corner of the world

I just found these photos of my room, taken last September & forgotten about. Though my internship and my life keep me constantly running around & therefore not home very often, my room is my small sanctuary--few things feel better than curling up in my bed with my Kindle & a hot chai at the end of a crazy day. I had just moved in when these were taken, so it's a little more cluttered now, a little messier, a little more me, a little more lived in. There are some knick-knacks added, several new books stacked about, winter coats and hats hung on bedposts, and two mason jars full of silver glitter sitting on my desk that are serving as decor until I decide on something fabulous to do with allll that glitz. It's my little corner of the world, and I love it.

summer memories in winter air

Sometimes you go to your favorite music festival in your favorite city with your two favorite people, carrying nothing but a sweater & a disposable camera, and you lay on the grass at the Seattle Center and dance to Passion Pit and M83 and City & Colour and other gorgeous bands and laugh in the beer garden and breathe in that northwest air. And sometimes, you find that disposable camera in the middle of cold, cold January and you develop it and fall in love with those memory all over again.

Seattle, music, friends, cheap disposable cameras: je t'aime!

collect moments

The morning of January 1st was freezing cold, extra crisp, and that stunning blue-grey that only Washington produces. I woke up slow; sleepy eyes attempting to take in the soft sunshine. It was my last day before returning to work, the first day of a new year, and the first sun we'd seen in (what felt like) weeks. Evan said to me "let's go on a little road trip". We spent the next five hours driving around in tiny little towns, under towering mountains, through tunnels of snow-heaped Evergreens. We wound around rivers, ambled past grazing horses, ignored "private property" signs. We stopped often, to breathe in and to look and to photograph. At times we were quiet except for exclamations at the beauty of our surroundings, at times we chattered away like you do when you're young and your love is new. It was my favorite day of the year, so far.
