guest post: Lauren & Madison of Awkward Girls

Here is the first of three guest posts I have for you while I'm volunteering for a week on the Navajo Reservation in AZ. I've got some lovely girls lined up, so check back all this week!

I'm assuming y'all have seen the Awkward Girls blog--and if you haven't, don't waste any more time. These girls are gorgeous, stylish, quirky, and sassy; all of which reflects in their posts. Why do I love their blog? Let's see: they love food, thrifting, the college life, and each other. Need I say more? Thanks for posting, Lauren & Madison! xoxo Charity

Hello!
We're Lauren and Madison, and we blog over at Awkward Girls!
We are so excited to be filling in for Charity while she's on her mission trip. She's cute, fashionable, AND charitable!? Well we suppose her name really says it all.
Anyways, over at our blog we write about fashion, thrifting, music, and living life together as best friends/poor college students.

Lately we have been buying lots of quirky animal prints. Like Lauren's horse sweater and Madison's bee print dress. We're still not sure if it's trendy, or we just look like animal freaks (which we kind of are). Either way, we're totally loving it. What trends are you loving lately? Let us know!

And make sure you stop by our blog and say hello!
Thanks again, Charity for having us. We hope you are having an awesome trip!

xoxo

Casual Friday

jeans & sweater: Forever 21, shirt: Target, boots: Charlotte Russe, necklace: Pac Sun
It's even easier to dress casual when the Washington sky has been pouring rain for a week straight. All I want to do is stay inside and drink coffee all day! Which is basically what I've been doing--I've been at my parents' home the last few days, working on post-graduation tasks but mostly catching up with old friends, hanging out with my lovely siblings (borrowing my sister's clothes...), chatting with my parents and snuggling with my pup. Oh, and eating A LOT. Chocolate pie? Thanks mama.

The other thing I've been doing is getting ready for the mission trip I am leaving on TONIGHT! I will be at the airport at 3am (ugh) to leave for the Navajo Reservation in Arizona for the week, where we will be rebuilding homes and putting on an after-school program for children. I did this trip last year, and lives were changed. Prayers & good thoughts are appreciated! I'll be back next Saturday, but don't worry, I've got some wonderful guest posts for you all. Au revoir for now! xoxo.

PS: if you do Casual Friday posts, be sure to link to them in the comments! I'd love the inspiration.

doughnuts and diplomas

I wore this on my last day of classes--I wanted to look slightly adult, which apparently means donning black and white, but I couldn't help throwing in some color with my favorite necklace. I started the morning with Top Pot doughnuts delivered from my brother--a Seattle staple. I ended the night with a Long Island and going dancing with my best friends. Celebrating our accomplishments is a wonderful part of life.
As of today at about 10:17 AM, I am done being a college student. Pending my official grades next week, I will then have an English degree with an emphasis on Creative Writing. In-sane. It also happens to be my mother's birthday, which means we spent the evening in a gorgeous restaurant drinking pomegranate mojitos and cucumber martinis, snacking on fancy cheeses, mussels, and spicy short ribs, and ending with a smoked chocolate torte. I feel a bit strange--the fact that I finished college is a bizarre thought that hasn't quite settled into my mind yet. But I'm adjusting. Here's to the calm before the storm!

sugarlips apparel military jacket

A few weeks ago, Sugarlips Apparel emailed me and asked if I would like to pick out an item from their site, to which I of course replied um, yes please! I almost chose this adorable top, but also loved this military-style jacket I'm wearing here. I've been searching for a chic, lightweight jacket for spring, and was so happy to come home to this waiting on my doorstep!
I'll be honest, I've worn this jacket about five times already since receiving it last week. It's perfect for layering over longer sweaters, avoiding that weird long sweater/short jacket combo where the sweater sticks out underneath. It makes any outfit look instantly put-together, and the color goes with basically everything I own. It is definitely a light jacket--you don't want to wear this in snow or freezing temperatures. Since it's still pretty chilly here in Washington, I threw on my favorite garden and sea scarf with it for some extra warmth. I woke up to snow yesterday morning--ready for sunshine now, please!
This is my last week of classes (ah!) so yesterday was spent drinking coffee, revising stories and poems, and in general getting myself organized. Luckily for me, my sweet boyfriend made me dinner AND the girl scouts were out in full force with their cookies--so the day ended well.

PS: I'm offering a code for 50% off any purchase from Sugarlips! The first person to tweet about this post gets it--just to say thanks and get you ready for Spring. xoxo!

Casual Friday

I missed the last few weeks, but let me assure you: Fridays have still been casual. My professor is at a big writer's conference this week, so I didn't even have to go to class today--I was tempted to stay in leggings all day, but then couldn't resist a walk down to my favorite thrift store and Buffalo Exchange. So real clothes were put on. And it's possible I bought a floor-length, snakeskin print 90s dress...highly, highly possible.
Speaking of the 90s, I just haven't been able to resist some denim-on-denim action lately. Which reminds me of this moment, which makes me feel great. Don't knock it 'til you try it. Now that I'm done shopping and done blogging, it's time to get down to some serious poetry revision. Jealous?

ps: check out the last two Casual Fridays here and here!

required reading

my most recent required (& not) reading.

I am in the middle of a thousand books, a thousand nonfiction pieces, a thousand tasks, a thousand conversations--c'est la vie, non? I can't decide if I would rather the next two weeks before graduation slow way down or speed way up; it doesn't matter either way, since time will proceed as it pleases. What a strange, strange time in my life. All I can do is put my heart into everything I do, and know that the future will unfold exactly as it is supposed to. And, perhaps, finish a few books. xoxo!
